Jon is settling into the rehab center. He did pretty well walking and on the stairs today, but he still needs support. The physical therapist said that the brain injury affects his balance. This will gradually correct itself over time as his brain heals, but the therapy will allow him to get around safely until that happens. He also does well on his activities of daily living -- dressing, eating, etc. This may mean that he could leave the rehab center in a couple of weeks. The cognitive skills will take more time, with the help of outpatient therapy. Although they do work with him on cognition, the main purpose of inpatient rehab is to get him in good enough shape to return safely home.

Sunday is a great day for visitors because he has no therapy sessions. You can also come during the week after 3:00 or 4:00. Visitors are great for jogging his memory and keeping him company. The center is located on 751 South Bascom Ave in San Jose. You can get more information here: http://scvmcrehab.org/article/traumatic_brain_injury.
